Monday we went for the MRI. I was so nervous and worried. It was weird as we walked into the hospital. It almost had a feeling of home to me. I thought that was strange and brushed it off thinking I was being weird. The MRI did end up showing that Jayden had a brain tumor in his cerebellum. The radiologist set us up an appointment for the next day with a pediatric neurosurgeon. It was hard to tell Jayden that something was wrong and that he was going to be having surgery in the next few days probably to have it removed. Poor kid, I'm sure that was quite confusing and terrifying. He handled it well. To get our minds off of it, we drove to JCW's and got some shakes. We let Jayden pick how big his was, which he took full advantage of.
The meeting with the neurosurgeon went well. It eased our minds so much. He told us it was a cerebellar astrocytoma. He didn't think it was cancerous and that it could be removed with surgery with great success. For the most part it didn't seem that there would be any long term problems - that he would heal fully. We were so grateful! We scheduled the surgery for the following Monday.
The rest of the week went by in a blur. We went to his last indoor soccer game and basketball game (though the seasons were just getting started). It was kind of weird not knowing exactly what the future held. Jayden was so happy because he got a goal at his soccer game. He loves to score! We also had help trying to clean and organize our house more since we never really had a chance to finish getting settled.
The whole week I couldn't help but wonder what life would be like after the surgery. We were hoping everything would return to normal, but there were no guarantees. It really makes you cherish the little moments that much more.
