Swim Team

Dylan swam on the American Fork Swim Team.  The official name is Hilltop Aquatics Swim Team (HAST - pronounced "haste").   As he's done swim lessons over the years, we have noticed how strong of a swimmer he is, and he enjoys it, so he tried out for two teams: HAST and the Lehi team.  Supposedly the Lehi team is not as good and easier to get on.  He didn't make that team, but when he tried out for HAST he made that one.  We were glad, since that was the one we wanted; he tried out for Lehi as a back up plan.

Dylan's favorite races were the 50 yard freestyle, 50 yard breaststroke, and 25 yard butterfly.  HAST is awesome in that all the meets are just with HAST itself.  We didn't have to travel all around the valley for different meets.  Also, they really try to award the kids as much as possible. So Dylan got a medal or ribbon at every meet for placing within his age group, and also a ribbon for getting a PR.

He got DQ'd on one race each in the first 3 meets for different reasons, which they told us to expect as the kids were learnining how to race.  He was a good sport about it, and kept trying.  The last race he didn't get DQ'd on anything.  Nice work!  His times were a little bit slower that day, but it was in the middle of our Bear Lake trip, so I think he was a bit worn out!

Swim team was such a fun and good experience for him, and he plans to do it again next year.  I had so much fun watching him race and seeing his excitement in his successes.  I hope he does do it again.
